MIDI Audio - The tutorials and documentation are outdated, pls help

Shawn Patterson

Question

I need to have MIDI playback and control so I can mix it down and export to audio.  The Cakewalk documentation and tutorials mention TTS-1 even though that has been removed from the latest software version.  With the removal of this, could someone let me know the new equivalent steps to produce audio from MIDI files?

If I was once relying on TTS-1 to convert MIDI files to audio and this option stopped being available to me, I would consider using Roland’s CanvasVA as a replacement for TTS-1

See:

If you have a licence for a previous version of Cakewalk that did contain TTS-1, then you can install that previous version before installing Cakewalk by Bandlab or Sonar Backstage pass version.  The availability of TTS-1 will be carried across to Cakewalk by Bandlab or Sonar Backstage pass version.

Note: I have another solution for converting MIDI files to audio, but most people would not have (or be able to acquire) what I use.

My tutorials are kept updated I have just released a few that deal with the removal of the TTS-1 and what to do about it.

Blame Googles search for putting older videos first on list because they obviously will have more views.

Thanks John.  I had looked at your videos and yes the old ones were first.   Thanks for sharing this one.   While I do not expect it to be plug and play, this is a bit clunky finding one that can play all the instruments.   This is a good start though.

I put a few days into research regarding GM players. The TTS-1 has by far the most features and can be customized to a certain extent.
Most of the GM players are static interfaces with no options . They seem to be based on the same sound fonts.
I like the sound of Coyote. And when the TTS-1 finally dies I’ll set it up as my default.
The Roland SC VST is $70 and I own an original hardware box. It doesn’t sound any better than any of the free players. The bass sounds terrible.
But I will keep the TTS-1 going and it seems it’s not dead yet.
