User 905133
I tried Gig Performer Free and found it unsuitable for my needs (not knocking it for others' needs), so I might give GP another chance. Maybe Essentials will be better suited for my needs. I just wish the comparison chart also included the GP Free limitations to do a side-by-side comparison. Thanks for mentioning the new version.
Infinitum Posted yesterday at 07:41 AM Share Posted yesterday at 07:41 AM (edited) The Free version is currently available for partners, such as Octave or Cherry Audio. Its purpose is really to get some insights about how Gig Performer works. No sounds are included. With Essentials, people can create functional and non demanding setups. For example, for my use case, Essentials is OK. I don't use scripting, OSC, or advanced MIDI processing. Sounds are included (Overloud TH-U and Synth Master Player, built specially for Gig Performer). The full version is for people that want all the features out there, ranging from sophisticated automation, extensions (e.g. Stream Deck extension) to advanced MIDI processing. Thanks for the summary of your intended audiences for the three products, but when I wrote: On 8/1/2025 at 9:39 AM, User 905133 said: I just wish the comparison chart also included the GP Free limitations to do a side-by-side comparison. I meant a comparison chart which includes not only Gig Performer [full] and Gig Performer Essentials, but a third column that shows a side-by=side comparison with all the features as shown on the Gig Performer [full] and Gig Performer Free comparison chart.** ***Hmmmmmmm. There used to be a Full v. Free feature-by-feature comparison chart, but based on the link in this post, it seems to be missing: Quote No Results Found The page you requested could not be found. Try refining your search, or use the navigation above to locate the post. Is it possible that GP Essentials has the exact same features as GP Free? and that the comparison chart that seems to be missing just got rebranded? If that's the case, why not just come out and say that the features of GP Free and GP Essentials are the same?
MusicMan Posted yesterday at 12:03 PM Share Posted yesterday at 12:03 PM I have the PA version, but the "upgrade" pricing and how the exit was handled by them when they left Plugin Alliance didn't inspire me to invest in the product, or the company. Interesting that they charge you extra to use it on both Mac and Windows. I somewhat understand that, as it's a lot more development to keep up with each OS upgrade on Mac breaking compatibility. Bit uncommon to see the separate charge though. The product itself isn't too bad and for some use cases I can see it making sense. I just fire up a DAW instead and some of those are free, or cheaper and fully fledged. But I'm not playing guitar to large crowds, or touring, or anything, so it's never mission critical.

If the Essentials v Full comparison chart had also included all of the items on the [evidently now removed] Free v. Full comparison chart OR, if the latter chart were still available so I could have compared them myself, I could have seen at a glance that for me looking into Essentials (such as through the trial) would cost time spent that I could never get back. I found the "GP not available through PA anymore . . . " discussion very insightful. (See link to the thread below.) @Infinitum Thanks for the comments about your use case scenario, and for mentioning "Sounds are included (Overloud TH-U and Synth Master Player, built specially for Gig Performer)." While that might be one difference between GP Essentials and GP Free, if I have Overloud (or comparable) software and SynthMaster 3, I'd need a whole lot of other uses cases to supplant the usefulness of the full three-column comparison chart. Perhaps such a chart is in progress and that explains why the GP Free v. GP Full is no longer available? And perhaps since you are part of the Gig Performer Team you can help make it happen sooner rather than later? User 905133
RE: Synthmaster Player: It has occasionally been available for free, and in fact Synthmaster 2 Player ("normally" $9) is currently free from KV331 (and possibly third party vendors). Although it might not be specially built for GP Essentials, for some synth players that don't have it (or SM3), it is still a freebie/deal! TBH before taking advantage of an APD deal for SM2 full, I picked up SM2 Player to get a hands-on feel for it.

That link was an old link. I just fixed it. Thanks for noticing. Here is the current one for the Free version: https://gigperformer.com/gig-performer-vs-gig-performer-free-comparison And this one is for Essentials: https://gigperformer.com/gig-performer-vs-gig-performer-essentials Plus, a blog article: https://gigperformer.com/gig-performer-essentials-overview Quote Perhaps such a chart is in progress The free version is currently only available through the partners channels (i.e. bundled with the partner products). If it becomes available as a separate download, then yes, it will make sense to include all three products.
