Started with Sonar 8.

Left when Presonus gave us quite the deal when Gibson shut it down.

Started with Sonar 8.5 studio, went to Sonar X1.  Then free Cbb.  Then Sonar paid subscription.   Now they just raised the renewal subscription price to $14.95 per month, $179 a year.   I won't pay that and I guarantee a lot of users like myself won't either.  And you know they're going to pull the plug on the Sonar free tier, the same way they did Cbb.  So from a business standpoint, where are they going to get new subscribers?  The only possibility to me is a one time license, something we've all been begging for.  I've been looking really hard at Reaper.   It looks amazing and only $60 every three to five years.

I have the feeling that they want to have an apology for stopping development of Sonar. It's kind of strange how they do all to get rid of their users!

I guess in the last 2 years the exodus from Sonar has been minimum so bad like after the Gibson thing. But I have no numbers really, it's just my impression reading on different forums.

I started on Music Creator which came bundled with those midi cab;es via serial port that never worked in Windows.  Cakewalk, Sonic Foundry and Magix has boxed software at Best Buy, Staples.

Next was Home Studio and gave a great deal on upgrading to Sonar 2,  which is still my favorite because it's not cluttered like most DAWs.

I did skip S6 - they were getting like Finale with paid upgrades every year.  That put off some since the new versions didn't fix the problems.

When I bought HS 2002 they actually had demos of other software.  I was getting turned off by the cluttered GUIs and tried the lite version of FL Studio that came with HS 2002.  I became an FL fanboy.

I don't collect plugins as much as I do DAWs. All I need is a Mac and have Logic, PT, and DP, I think I have them all covered.

BTW Cakewalk was a pioneer in the industry.  I do believe it was the 1st 64 bit DAW,

Started with Pro Audio 4 through CbB (skipped SONAR 2  and 4 for some unknown reason), Ditto on Studio One but I will support the new SONAR just because.

Revised: I will not support subscription after Dec 2025. I will revert to Sonar Free level though. It's all I need for my Collaborators. I simply do not work in CbB anymore and SONAR is thus overkill for my needs. I have the ability to covert my older projects to either Reaper or Studio One via excellent fools created by azslow3 (as long as I consolidate tracks first).
