Guest
I'd like to get some feedback regarding the mixing aspect of the following song (don't hesitate to say if it's bad): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QgLaDuPm7NJQZ4A4L68LNv5BsSgBNLl4/view?usp=sharing I'll reveal later what's up with it, but I won't provide any additional information right now due to the potential of getting biased information. (Contains 3 growl vocals, in case that's something you don't want to hear. Not metal though) Edited March 4 by MixingMastering Added Sentence
Glenn Stanton
quick listen sounds like someone really likes Alanis Morrisette ? definitely needs a lot more mixing though - one thing jumps out - the snare is very inconsistent and a lot of other masking and levels getting jumbled. Alright, since you're the only one who answered, I might as well tell what the experiment was early: This was my first attempt at mixing ever and on a DAW I never tried. I took it the song from https://cambridge-mt.com/ms/mtk/, which is a library of songs for mixing practice. Here's the mixed version uploaded there, which I never used as a reference since I wanted to try whatever my brain could come up with, so it sounds very different: https://previews.cambridge-mt.com/InnerCircle_Full_Preview.mp3. Lynn Wilson
I think you've done a good job of mixing this interesting song. Until I heard the alternate version, I was going to suggest turning up the vocals. Your mix is clean and punchy, and I think you did a fine job with the drums. The other version has a wider mix, but your panning is well done regardless. This is much better than my first attempts at mixing. I'll give this a B+, and you're only gonna get better!
