David Sprouse
Is this satisfying as is or should I extend it with the first half of the A section tagged on to the end? Do I go too long before other instruments come in? Is it too rubato? Yes, I'm orange irish. https://davidsprouse.bandcamp.com/track/eileen-aroon Edited October 7, 2019 by David Sprouse

PhonoBrainer
I liked it! You mentioned rubato, and yeah maybe? For four pieces to all play in unison with rubato is quite a feat. But it still comes off pretty natural and I like your sound elements. I am not familiar with the traditional but I liked your version. What instruments did you use? cheers, -Tom
bjornpdx
David Pretty and somber. I kind of expected something else to come in at the end, maybe a slightly different version of part A. Had to google rubato. I don't think it's too rubato.
freddy j
Sorry David - I tried 4 separate times and got the message that the song was not there. I'll try again tomorrow.

A lot of these old irish tunes are kind of wistful, or even remorseful. Must be all the guilt!

It's a string trio. Thanks for taking the time to listen!

Leizer
This was a nice piece. I liked the solo intro, good balance between the parts I think. Then you lost me around 1:45, I got back in it at 2:00 and the ending was nice I think. I didn't like the violin solo sound, but I know how difficult it is to get it to sound realistic. Nice work and thanks for posting!

Douglas Kirby
That was a good listen - I enjoyed your composition. I don't think it needs any sort of changes - sounds fine as is.
garybrun
Hi David I liked it. We all paint different pictures... I would have liked the instrument in the beginning to be more central... I thought it was too long on the left side. What about panning center and then left when the others come in. Just my thoughts. I dont know anything about traditional music... AndyB01
Hi David - reminded me a little of Ungar's Ashokan Farewell (no bad thing) it has that sweet yet melancholy Celtic lament. I really enjoyed it - rubato and all. Andy
Johnbee58
I heard this song in a movie from the 1970s. Richard Harris sang it with Samantha Eggar. One of the lines that stuck in my head was "I had a lady fair. Eileen Aroon". When I saw the title it struck me "could that be that song"? and it is. Never heard it as an instrumental. Very pretty. ?John B
David Sprouse
Thanks John, I took a lot of liberty with the melody. If it were honest to the pattern of the lyrics it'd sound different. Thanks for the interesting aside on this. This I did not know Edited November 10, 2019 by David Sprouse
