I've been using Element plugin host for this and it works flawlessly and is free. I use the loopback in RME's TotalMix FX with an unused channel. I use Element to build FX chains, which I can then use to track through in real time.

Hi Tommy, could you please elaborate how to set RME up in Kushview wihtout getting a nasty delay or echo ?
I know how to use loopback and I usually use it on ADAT 7/8 with looopback enabled. However no matter what I do in the Kushwiew Audio settings I have always a delay or an echo. I just wanted to send some playback through the input in Kushview to manipulate it further with effects.

What am I missing ?
Audio Device type = ASIO
Device = Asio Fireface USB

thanks in advance. I know this is an older post. So any help is much appreciate it.

As I said I am using loopback all the time with Nuendo to track playback or having live sessions.
But with Kushview and other standalone VST host I struggle to route it properly without having delays and echo feedback.

I also tried to disable all not used inputs/outputs and use only the loopback input ADAT 7/8 and standard OUT 1/2.

Try to drop the buffer size. I run my buffers at 32 or 64 samples and that seems to keep it managable. 512 is wicked high for tracking.

unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem.
I am starting to speculate that it rather has something to do how I setup the routing in Element.
Or maybe that is not how Kushview works. I give you an example:

I want to run playback let's say from spotify or an  external audio player to the

AUDIO IN through the hardware outs in RME ADAT7/8

Then route it to an EQ and to the AUDIO OUT

Maybe this kind of scenario isn't even possible in Element. I didn't find any tutorials on it.

I also don't seem to get running audio through the input when playing the external source. As in the middle is the EQ, but there is no signal.
I am sure I am missing a point or a swith or whatever. It drives me crazy. Either I don't get an audio signal or I get feedback.
I attach you a secreenshot from Elements. Thanks a lot.

*** Update ***
I found at least an internal plugin called audio file player. So I can achieve the scenario that I want while playing sound directly from that plugin in Element and then the routing works and signal passes through.

But not with using my loopback channel from RME. 😉

@Tommy Byrnes So I know, what the problem is. I need to find a setting, where RME Totalmix will only play if I route it through the input in Element. So I can control the volume and loundness and mute the signal in Element. That is where the feedback issue is coming from. So I probably have to create some cues or similar. Or I don't know. I have been using totalmix and loopback only for tracking purpose and it worked great. However when setting it up in Element I have these feedback phase issues. As alternative there is only VoicemeterPotato, which offers a loopback function as already Totalmix does. But I would like to avoid that.

@Tommy Byrnes *** SOLVED ***

Just found this video, which explains it with LiveProfessor another VST host. But same principles apply. Oh boy was I a moron. It is so simple. 😂
Didn't I say it. The little things. And I just post it for others who may encounter the same issue.

Thank you and have a great one.
