How do I use .exe plugins (standalone apps) inside Cakewalk?

I've realized some tools like Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt 7 by Native instruments come only as .exe apps. These files don't show up in Cakewalk's plugin browser and I can only open them separately. Is there a way to use them inside Cakewalk?

Both Komplete Kontrol and Kontakt comes in both executable and plugin form.  As you want them to interact with CbB, you need to use the VST plugins, and not the executables. The plugins will show up in the plugin browser, provided that

  1. You've got the paths to your NI plugins (VST2 and/or VST3) included in Edit > Preferences > File > VST Settings | VST Scan Paths
  2. You've run a plugin rescan, either manual or automatic.
