Recording the VSTi keyboard's midi

Tough one for me to explain. If I'm using SI - String Section's keyboard, can I record the midi that I'm playing with my mouse?

Part 1: No, you cannot record MIDI notes by clicking on the image of the keyboard in the SI-String Section VSTi Window with your mouse.

Part 2: You can record MIDI notes by clicking on the image of the keyboard  in the Virtual Controller.

No:        <------ SI-String Section (plug-in)

Yes:     <------ Virtual Controller (built into Cakewalk)
