Recording the VSTi keyboard's midi

Tough one for me to explain. If I'm using SI - String Section's keyboard, can I record the midi that I'm playing with my mouse?

Pressing the keys on the UI's keyboard with a mouse does not generate midi note data.  Same thing with SI-Drums and the others. See for example: 

You can use the built-in virtual controller.
