Is it not a good idea to upgrade Kontrol?   I remember some rumblings about it.

There are a lot of rumblings about it. Starting with 3.0, the main focus is to support NKS2 and Kontakt 7.7, so if you don't need that, there's not much reason to update. Alongside the NKS2 changes, many people consider the other changes starting with 3.0 a step or two (or three) backwards, especially as far as workflow is concerned. I'm in that camp, so I'm staying with 2.9.6.

Also, most of the updates coming out now for the Kontakt products make the products require Kontakt 7.7+, and there are a lot of grumblings about that too. So, I decided to upgrade my Komplete Ultimate 12 to the now "aging" version 14 a month or so ago, and then pretty much commit to no more updates from Native Instruments.

No love for my S61 MkI from Komplete Kontrol 3.0+ since support was dropped in October.
