Jono J Grant Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Hello, I need to import a midi file into an existing session. The midi file has a tempo map. How can I insert it into an existing session with the tempo information? If I use "open midi file" it creates a new session. I need it to be imported. Is there a work-around or something? This should be a simple procedure. Thanks
Jono J Grant Posted December 16, 2023 Author Posted December 16, 2023 All I can think of is to open it and then cut paste special into the new file I guess? Thought there might be a more direct way. J
John Vere Posted December 16, 2023 Posted December 16, 2023 Midi file have tempo as part of the file. So opening a file preserves that information. Existing projects have a tempo so then we import or drag and drop the midi data into the project and the midi data follows the projects tempo. What you seem to be asking is for a third option to have a midi files tempo take over a project tempo. Nope. Doesn’t exist, at least not in any DAW I’ve used. Only thing I can think of is you would have to open the midi file and now drag and drop the data from the original. But that’s not going to work with audio. 1

Jono J Grant Posted December 16, 2023 Author Posted December 16, 2023 Got it to work with copy paste special. It would be cool if you could export a tempo map that could be imported by an import command.

MacCheeze Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 @jono grant How did you copy paste the tempo track? I can't figure out what a "special copy paste is". All I can do is copy and paste the midi tracks themselves (notes, pitch bend etc...) but not the tempo track from one project to another
David Baay Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 Alt+Ctrl+C gets you Copy Special and Alt+Ctrl+V gets you Paste Special with the option to include Tempo Changes. 1
