Lord Tim
This should give you a good headstart:https://www.kvraudio.com/plugins/windows/vst-plugins/vst3-plugins/instruments/effects/free/newest
Tobias
If its guitar related stuff then the bult in Th3 is not bad and Guitar rig player would also work https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/guitar/guitar-rig-5-player/ Maybe you already use both though
Feral State Sound
You should check out the Ignite Amps stuff also: https://www.kvraudio.com/developer/ignite-amps Edited December 21, 2018 by Alex H.

jesse g
Blue Cat Audio had a few Free Amps in a Free bundle package. BlueCat Audio
Robert Bone
Voxengo also has a dozen or so freebies, at least one of which is a modeled guitar amp: https://www.voxengo.com/group/saturator-plugin-download/ Also VST4Free has a category for free modeled amps: http://www.vst4free.com/index.php?plug-ins=Guitar/Amp And VST Planet has some: http://www.vstplanet.com/Effects/Saturation.htm And another: http://www.wiredguitarist.com/2016/12/30/top-5-free-guitar-plugins/ DSK Music: (10 amps included) https://www.dskmusic.com/dsk-electrik-guitarz/ I got the above doing a couple of quick Google searches for things like: free guitar amp vst, and guitar amp model vst free. There were LOTS of other links listed, so you can likely find a whole bunch of them. I use the TH3 and Guitar Rig 5 Pro plugins, which are both paid, but the free version of Guitar Rig 5 Player is likely quite good, as the paid version is outstanding. There is some overlap with the above links, and you will want to check versions when you DO find duplicates, so that you get the latest versions you can find for a given plugin. I would also encourage you to check out the other VST categories for these types of sites, as there are usually TONS of things like free effects and even synths, as well as presets for some popular synth plugins. One more thing to check when looking for plugins to download - I HIGHLY recommend sticking to using 64-bit plugins, when using 64-bit hosting software, such as Cakewalk by Bandlab. 32-bit plugins in a 64-bit environment can be quite troublesome, and prone to crashing unpredictably. Yes, bridging software is potentially helpful, but not always, so I always try to avoid using any 32-bit plugins when possible. Bob Bone
Lord Tim
I'd also like to add (and echo @Tobias recommendation of TH3) that you shouldn't underestimate a lot of CbB's built in effects. The Sonitus suite, for example, looks pretty old and useless, but it's far from that. I do a lot of pretty big productions and that suite of effects is my go-to for almost every project. Light on the CPU, transparent sound and they just work. Adding to that you have all of the great ProChannel modules too. The EQ has great character, you have the console emulation which, when you strap it over a lot of tracks, gives great character, and the tape simulator is great for warming things up and knocking the peaks off of stuff that's too "digital" sounding. I think with the exception of a couple of good mastering effects, you can easily do world class mix/masters with no additional effects needed other than what comes with CbB. If you're just mixing, you easily have enough stock stuff to get the job done well. That said... who can say no to more free stuff? ?
Robert Bone
Yup - I will echo what Tim said above. Sonar, and now Cakewalk by Bandlab, has always been both feature-rich and chock full of actually useful plugins. The ProChannel modules are indeed VERY capable, and I use the sounds of Rapture Pro all the time. Bob Bone
Magic Russ
Don't forget that there are also free versions of Amplitube by IK Multimedia as well as Peavey's Revalver.
Starship Krupa
I second that recommendation for the amp sim from Blue Cat. I was impressed with that one, and also Boogex from Voxengo. Less guitar specific, big ups on the Sonitus plug-ins that come with Cakewalk and the FX that are there on the ProChannel. You can spend a good long time just getting to know those and making great sounds. The Free Bundle from http://www.meldaproduction.com/ is a trusty favorite of mine. Go to iZotope and pick up their freebies, the Vocal Doubler is especially good. www.pluginboutique.com is an online dealer but has a collection of freeware plugins from various sources, in addition to regularly running deals on $1 and $5 plug-ins. Right now you can get most of the Soundspot line for $1 each, and I like their stuff. If you have any interest at all in softsynths, they have Hybrid 3 for $1 and Xpand! 2 for $4.99

With either one of them, you're also eligible for an upgrade to the AIR Instrument Expansion Pack 3 Complete package for $76, which is basically all their VSTi's. This is the VSTi pack normally shipped with ProTools and is a steal at this price. I'd also recommend the AIR Creative FX bundle, which are the stock ProTools VST effects, which are on sale for $28 at pluginboutique. Although the effects with CbB cover most of the types of effects included in this bundle, they do sound different, and again are a bargain at $28. AIR constantly is having sales where you can pick these up super cheap. Hybrid 3, Vacuum Pro, and Xpand!2 can many times be gotten for a buck and are great. I also agree that the AIR Instrument Expansion Pack 3 Complete is a great value but the only thing is that AIR isn't maintaining them really anymore, so you may want to invest in something else such as Komplete Select. Marke Burgstahler
I know it's not free, but I am getting some great results for amp sims and FX from the Line 6 Helix Native plugin.
abacab
For guitar sims, I would agree with the bundled TH3 Cakewalk, and the free Amplitube from IK Multimedia, and Guitar Rig from Native Instruments. Amplitube and Guitar Rig both have free versions. I don't play guitar, but I enjoy running my synths and guitar samples through them! For a virtual bass guitar amp, I like the Gallien-Krueger by Audiffex, available in the light version for free: https://shop.audified.com/products/live-guitar-and-bass-bundle-le
