Midi issue (semi solved)

Today while making music (two hours in) I create a new instrument track and load up a vst synth with Kontakt 7 Up until this moment I'd created several kontakt 7 track and everything worked as it should) . And all of a sudden there is no sound from playing my midikeyboard.

The midi signal is there, I can play by putting out notes or using the piano roll keyboard. Hmm weird I thought and checked midi devices and everything was as it always is.

I then created a EW Opus instrument and it works as should. So i started to load up my different  instruments from UJAM, Reveal Sound, Best Service, Kontakt  (5 and 7) etc and for some very annoying and weird reason Kontakts and Best Service Engine wont work as intended. The midisignal is there but the sound wont come when pressing a key.

I've restarted computer, restarted Cakewalk, tried unchecking/checking probably every box in Devices, midi, controlsurfaces for the last 2 hours while trying to find a solution online.

So now I turn to you guys and girls to perhaps help me solve this mysterious midi issue.

8 hours later I've managed to pin down the weak link in the chain. It turns out my 6 month old M-Audio Keystation Mk3 in some way have been corrupted/broken down.

Borrowed a alternative midi keyboard and now everything works as intended.  But its above my understanding how it singles out kontakt and Engine to not work, but all other vst work as usual :S

Has anyone encountered this before?

/Johan

Per the initial post - The amount of variables, and information on what you have actually set up and tested, make it unlikely that anyone else can repeat what is described here, and in fact even given the information regarding the update to the post.   But it is good that you seem to have found some kind of solution!

Quite often, you may find simple testing and reporting here, with full details on setup of the tracking at the very least, can help with getting questions answered here.

As it is, I would suggest looking into the MIDI routings in your project, and whether or not the correct channel assignments are in place, as most often those details are what can make all the difference in using a MIDI input to trigger various MIDI instruments. Understanding and confirming all the choices, from MIDI keyboard output settings, the Cakewalk track input assignments, through to the MIDI instrument input settings, are often the culprit with the kind of response you are describing. And those variables all change with different MIDI instruments, and not all plugins will initially respond alike.  I hope that helps going forward.

Thank you for your response!

You are absolutely correct that I could've done a better job narrowing down my issue and more metodically presented my problem with images and debug files.  I was admittedly trying to find a short cut solution. Maybe someone had encountered my exact problem and happened to read this thread.

But in a nutshell everything worked perfect, then in a split second it did'nt.  And after replacing my midikeyboard everything worked as before. Leaving me to the conclusion that the issue was my newly bought Keystation Mk3  midikeyboard having a seizure of some sort  and not Cakewalk.

Should the issue return I'll deep dive further into it and maybe ask for further advice here, while presenting more thorough of a case.

Once again thank you and have a great day!
