... it was the name that got me Dr. Steve  "Input Echo", thought that meant that it's function was to monitor the input like a mixing desk would, not decide if the input went through or not, so could mark this thread " solved ", but the resulting conversation has being quite educational, well, will be if or when I get over the newbie stumbling blocks.

Not a problem for me. While I would usually suggest to take a discussion like this to another thread, I think it brought out some relevant points in this case.
