I have a mixed multi-track project when an external synth is used with soft synth tracks. Behringer UCA202 interface allows me hearing the mix down while editing since it has the monitor capability, so basically Cakewalk outputs to the digital buffer, commands the external module which is connected to the interface input and both worlds are mixed on board to my ears.
Understandably I can not export such a project at once. The ear monitor mix is nowhere to be found. As a test, I made a recording in Audacity while playing the project in Cakewalk. If I used WASAPI general the recorded sound was the external synth's, if WASAPI (lookback) - The mix of only soft synths. So I had to "render" the midi tracks into an audio tracks as was explained here at the forum multiply times.
But as a developer I just think that Cakewalk might implement something like this (below). Maybe it's already there, but requires some checkboxes be set, please tell be which in this case, I tried all sets of real-time related checkboxes to no avail.
When exporting something requiring real-time recording, the export allows switching into recording to a sound buffer from the general sound input, so like Live Input is supposed to work.
But all the tracks that are software bound (capable of mixing both programmatically and real-time) have to be not recorded live but mixed programmatically to the buffer (that was filled with the the external synth sound from the step one). Cakewalk can do this because the real-time buffer is something of its control at this step.
This way Cakewalk doesn't depend on the sound interface having or not having the internal loop back to have the mix down.
