Covnert to Mono [Solved]

Bill Phillips

Question

How does the "Convert to mono" function in the audio clip context menu work? I see it bounces the clip to a new mono clip. But how does it do it? I'm guessing it sums the two tracks which would incorporate any phase cancellations. Is it affected by the Pan control?

What I'd like is a "Separate stereo track into two mono tracks" function, but I haven't found a way to do that.

"Convert to Mono" is clip based, so Track Pan has no effect (later stage in signal flow).

To "Separate stereo track into two mono tracks" you can use "Bounce to Track" with "Split Mono" option:

Track View: Tracks - Bounce to Track(s) - Channel Format - Split Mono

In this case panning is affected.

Exporting a track with "Split Mono" is also possible.

Thanks Klaus. I'm glad I asked. This solution is much better than the one I'd found googling.?
