I am having problems with Cakewalk changing audio samples incorrectly. I am not sure why or how to stop this.
here is what I do:

  1. Import a file into a track (24-bit, 48kHz, mono)
  2. Export that track to a file format MS Wave as 24-bit, 48kHz, mono. Turn off all mixing options.
  3. Compare the tracks in a hex editor and they are different.

Shouldn't the data be the same if I haven't modified it at all?

Because Cakewalk works at 32 bit floating point I always export stems as 48/32 no dither. To me that's as good as it's going to get.

Looking at digital audio under a microscope is a bit ( pun intended)  of waist of time. I totally agree with  this:

The real question is:

does it sound the same or not?

unfortunately for me, I am using it as a weird use case.
I am using it as a test tool and not to make music.

Thanks for the information on 32-bit floating point.  I didn't consider that!

i tried audacity too. It seems to be a bit better than cakewalk for what I am trying to do, but it has issues too.

What are the project settings as far as Bit depth and Sample Rate? Cakewalk will convert any imported audio to the project sample rate. The there is the "double Presicion" checkbox and other things that might affect an export.
