Yes, you can drag in any MIDI and save it as a user pattern which can then be used like proprietary MIDI. So you could play a couple of bars in an easy key like C and then play the pattern using a chord progression in any key you want. I never saw an official answer, but I assume that MIDI packs won't need to be changing versions like the sound expansions will need to be.
