Newbie how to record VSTi's?

Hello.  Just started with Cakewalk.  My Midi controller keyboard plays the Vsti's.  But if I insert a Midi track to record the Midi data, then press record and play, nothing gets recorded.  Help please with how to record a VSTi from my Midi Controller keyboard, then play it back?  Thanks.  Neville

If the VSTi you are playing is inserted on an instrument track, just record arm that track, press record, and go. That will record MIDI from your controller. It should play back any MIDI data recorded there just fine.
