Yep, not often on sale that one.
So it’s “Unify” as in “Get Unified!” :)

Never, apparently.

Why do I need this?

Reid Rosefelt asked a similar question over at the VI Control community a year ago, and got 7 pages of responses...

Here is John "Skippy" Lehmkuhl's Unify release video from 3 years ago. Unify Standard is now up to version 1.9.1. All updates have been free, and most have included new features. :)

A few key takeaways from this, but there are many more!

  • Unify is a self contained instrument that you can play right away without adding any plugins or libraries, with 400 patches included.
  • You can scan and add you own plugins.
  • Contains many samples, MIDI FX, audio FX, and a few free synths used by permission.
  • Macro knobs are assignable to your controller and can connect with any parameter in any layer of a patch. Even multiple instances of the same instrument. This is a huge feature for performance control!
  • Each layer processes on a separate CPU thread, so it automatically load balances.
  • It's fun!

Just like most DAW gear - you don't.

True, I haven't bitten yet, but I love PluginGuru stuff and have all his other plugins/sounds that I CAN use, meaning I don't have the Omnisphere stuff because I don't own Omnisphere. Having said that, I will eventually pick it up. It's a good example of a plugin done right. All the support and efficiency you want out of a plugin etc... Also, if you have the need to use AU or VST in a DAW that doesn't support one or the other, you can with Unify. Moreover, the layering capabilities are insane, so if you're an experienced synth nut who loves the ability to have parameters that feedback into each other etc... I'm sure you will love this.

I finally figured out how to use MIDI learn with my controller for some synths that don't do MIDI learn on their native GUI.

With Unify hosting them, it is a simple task to use any knobs in the 4 banks of 8 Macro Knobs in the Unify GUI mapped to my controller. Then simply assign the desired  synth automation parameters in any instrument layer to a Unify Macro Knob. Makes it a great performance tool! :)

Give me a shout when Unify will be on 50% off sale.

Will never happen. Skippy says that there will not be any sale prices because Unify is always on sale! :)
