it seems to me that this is just a lowpass eq ....I like that Sound Particles are doing something a bit different but really,  there must be more to it that that ?

I think it's to add "air" to your recording.. the lowpass is only for control the air added.

After messing with it and reading the description, it's to simulate distance.  Basically it's a low pass filter and gain control.  Nothing special.  Seeing that it's free, the only loss is drive space.

I think the uniqueness is that it calculates an accurate filter and attenuation through air based on the distance in feet.

I would have hoped it added some subtle ambiance for better, more true effect. That's what I thought the 'air' was there for.
