I already had Blackbird, and like it...but they all are good for their particular thing.

Even at $5 I have to ask myself do I want to occupy more virtual real estate with
"Drums" where I already have a billion different ones

I picked up ragnarock. I have many drums but I am an addict. If I was starting out I wound be a drummer.  I was always curious how 8dio was compared to others. I find I like to load up something new and try for inspiration.

I believe if you use someone's referral link they are $5 without having to create
a new account, but I can't swear to that...I was a V8P up until they ditched that program,
when they launched the "new" website

I also noticed this morning Zeus was on sale on one page but regular on another. It looks like they fixed it now. All are $20.

Yes. Referral programs are focused on acquiring new customers, so only a new customer making their first purchase gets a $15USD  discount (once).  Some people are creating new accounts,  but, of course,  that's completely dishonest and I wouldn't recommend it for ethics reasons.
