Your link is just a link to your picture.  If you copy the text of your link then you get to the magazine. Where do you go to try to enter the 3 questions?

My link has been fixed. Somehow the CbB forum software mixed it up with my pic, because I posted the correct link initially via copy/paste.

  • If you can access the CM magazines in my File Silo link, just select one of them to access the available CM downloads for that issue.
  • Scroll down until you see  "Download the NEW CM PLUGIN SUITE".
  • Click "Download" on that item to begin the quiz. You will need access to that issue in order to answer the questions asked in the quiz, such as "what's the last word in the article on page xx".

How would this compare to the full Zebra?

ZebraCM: Baby zebra

ZebraCM is a stripped-down version of Zebra2 with a selection of modules organised in a simple layout. Though smaller, ZebraCM is still an adept synthesizer with enough features to keep you busy before stepping up to the full experience of Zebra2.

Please note: ZebraCM was commissioned by Computer Music magazine for their readers. It is only available via Computer Music, not from u-he.com or our resellers.

Don't forget there is a CM version of U-HE's Bazille too.

I was going to mention that, but figured this was a Zebra thread, so... ?

BazilleCM is also a very nice one, and was also updated recently. Definitely worth a shout out! Available from CM305, direct download: https://www.filesilo.co.uk/software/your-free-plugin-all-new-u-he-bazille-cm-zip/

And to go off-topic from u-he for just a second, there are also a couple of other very good freebie synths in the free CM Suite, such as DuneCM and ThornCM. :)

I've gotten to the point where I don't need another synth in my life.

I'm struggling with learning to make do with the 200+ synths that I already have... ?

I feel nothing but shame whenever I visit the OSC (One Synth Challenge) and listen to the winning songs that were produced using only one synth (with multiple instances) to create all of the sounds used.

Especially this from OSC#159, featuring Surge XT:

https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/2022/osc-159-surge-xt

"This song is made with only one open-source synthesizer called "Surge XT" in the Digital Audio Software "Reaper" with only a few free effects (EQ, Compressor, Limiter)."

Just finished a course on Live and you really don't need 3rd party stuff.

Amazing the stuff I've heard in FL using their 3xOsc.  People cranked out a lot if music in Reason before they created REs.

I have everything in FL, Live, Reason and then add Arturia to the mess and those zillion Kontakt synths.

I find synths are more about trends.  You rarely see EDM producers use more than 3 synths.

The plot thickens. Should we use ZebraCM or Zebralette? And which one runs those sweet preset packs from The Unfinished well?

I like the sound of Zebralette, and it comes with some sweet presets. But it's really a very cut down version of Zebra, with basically one oscillator, vs. two on ZebraCM.

It's amazing what some folks have done with Zebralette, and it was really Urs' idea of a demonstration of what can be done with just one Zebra oscillator, morphed, blended, and FX'd. Also contains a 32 stage MSEG (multi stage envelope generator) that adds a lot of movement.

But I never felt the workflow intuitive enough to use it for more than a preset machine. I find the ZebraCM much more intuitive for sound shaping. No idea about the preset compatibility though...
