I used to use Pro Tools. All I had to do was send my 4 sm57's to my Yamaha board, then tape out to the mic in on my laptop. I got one simple drum track. With no effects or any post processing the drums sounded great. I'm in an almost empty garage. It's big. It's boomy. It's lovely.

I just spent 4 hours with Cakewalk doing the same thing. The drums live recorded, zero effects, sound dead. They sound like I'm kicking a dead horse full of bricks. In my headphones, the drums sound wonderful. In Cakewalk playback the kick and toms sound like they are stuffed full of blankets.

I'm at my witts end. The raw drum sound from the mics should just be captured as is.

It fixed itself. All I did was walk away and come back an hour later. WTF.
