I haven't seen anything about a server though. 1 hour ago, abacab said: Winamp’s New Version Is Here After Four Years In Development https://www.techworm.net/2022/08/winamp-new-version-four-years.html Winamp Is Back (Again) to Play all Those MP3s You Don't Have https://gizmodo.com/winamp-windows-media-player-mp3-return-back-download-1849361610 Forum link: Winamp 5.9 RC1 Released (direct download link works here): http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=458120 Thanks for the links! I hope you understand. Tim brings an interesting option. Stream from your laptop / desktop to an app. I guess I'm not the only one with terabytes of mp3's somewhere on a dusty external drive.

It works as I would expect. Hope this info helps. EDIT: The above link is the first one from what you have listed as "New site." I also tried this from the section that says for older player like Winamp. http://radioparadise.com/m3u/aac-320.m3u . Both work on my version of Winamp 5.6666 . I have no idea which versions I had over the years. When the proverbial you know what hit the fan, I took opted for 5.6666 and it has work for me for playing files, internet radio stations, ad hoc concerts/performances, etc. Edited August 4, 2022 by User 905133 to add additional info about Winamp 5.6666

Last time I looked into this was like 10-15 years ago. Back then there wasn't any good Android app.

But, it's too bad NFT's have that reputation (and rightly so), because there is something to the concept. Very basically it's just another form of ownership and distribution. We used to buy vinyl, casettes and CD's. Then we downloaded MP3's (we still do). Then we streamed everything (we still do). The latter is just modern radio, there is no ownership anymore. So it's the far end of the spectrum. I am of the opinion that eventually ownership will swing back. It already does with vinyl sales on the rise. So owning a certain piece of music, and not just the media which it comes on, in addition with the nifty technological things you can do with it, will be the future imo.
husker
Is this the part of the thread where I admit that I still buy physical CDs, then rip them to .flac and .mp3? I know, so 2005.... 1

I was referring to winamp entering the nft scene just for a cash grab. if you are interested in the thing, check out https://arpeggi.io/ online daw, provide samples and get royalties each time used in the platform, etc (still in beta) Edited August 4, 2022 by arnoldoo

I think this is fantastic. My first thoughts on it might not have been the most positive. Not really negative either, just what work around would need to be worked around. - Server , like any other server online protection would need to be beefed up in case someone tries to come at you. An open server could be an open door. - I believe Shoutcast charges. Haven't looked at the rates. Everyone has to make it somehow right? - In the case of sharing I'm sure the copyright bug is just around the corner ready to bite, unless the material is clean. I could see one computer being pressed into service as a radio server and let loose. Most podcasts are prerecorded. Someone has to collect though because now we have computer upkeep, show programming/recording and the Shoutcast fee. A sponsor would be necessary unless the fees are very reasonable and you only want to stream to yourself. I'm thinking the same or much less than Spotify. As far as I can tell, Winamp only streams with Shoutcast. But since I have never done that, only know what I've read. Shoutcast is a paid service. I believe Winamp SA and Shoutcast are owned by the same Belgian company, Radionomy, which acquired Shoutcast from Nullsoft. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radionomy If you are sharing or streaming copyrighted content online, you are responsible for paying fees to the industry groups ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC (who represent songwriters & publishers) in very much the same way that an FM station does. These fees are distributed to songwriters & publishers based on periodic airplay surveys & reports.

Last Call
yES, PLEASE, make it resizable! I just installed it and use a 4K TV... it looks small... even when I click on Double size X) But works great, just as the old one. I don't feel we need more of a player. jesse g
Wow Winamp, I haven't heard that name since I stopped using it in 2005. The first time I downloaded it was from Share Bear or was it Care Bear, whatever, it was a viscous Bear that gave me a nasty computer virus. When I finally went to the Winamp site and downloaded it, I fell in love with the Gold Skin because it looked like the Marantz Gold stereo system I had at the time.
