For sure first save as a track template.
You can open the original project and resize it half screen. Open new project , make half screen and now just drag the track from one project to the other.

Or use Copy/ Paste between the two projects.

The best way to do it:

1.  In the original project, save the track as a track template

2.  In the new project, insert the track template you created in step 1.

3. Copy the track in the old project

4. Focus the track in the new project, and paste

If you speaking of an audio track, that's the wau I do

1) open a  new audio track on the new project.

2) sign on a notebook volume, pan, effects of the old track

3) select the whole old track and copy it

4) paste the old track om the new track
