Latency issues?

when playing a audio file, the playback is "chopped."  The beginning or end of notes is cut short in an abrupt manner. I have tried several buffer settings, to no avail.

What audio interface are you using?

What driver mode and buffer settings?

Where are you playing back the audio file, imported into a track or previewing it in the browser?
