Sudden lag in CbB using RME interfaces.

Hi guys. I recently started having a laggy behavior (no settings at all have been changed to cause this) in CbB with my RME Babyface I. I started a thread about this in the RME forum because I thought it would be an interface problem, but as far as I know by the moment, this sudden issue is related to Ryzen (I think) and RME. It does not happen at all in other DAWs or even in an old W7 installation with both SONAR and CbB.

This issue is happening to people running Windows 10 with Ryzen (normally after one of the last Windows updates), and CbB as DAW. And all of them are using RME stuff, which all of you know have one of the most solid drivers. With this issue the DAW is completely useless using RME ASIO driver.

Try some of the advice given here too.

Hi guys. I'm sadly bringing this topic back...

After suffrering the problem with the CbB lag with the first RME Babyface (the blue one) I just abandoned and sold it. I bought a second hand MOTU Audio Express and I have been so happy (with few jitter issues but I have been able to work properly, stable overall). After these 2 years, I could afford a new RME so I decided to buy 3 days back a new Babyface PRO FS. I thought that after 2 years of Bandlab updates and a new unit of this spectacular interface would be impossible to remotely have the same issue.... Stupid of me...

I am suffering the very same: I updated my processor to a powerful Ryzen 5 5600x.

I found this issue also happening in the RME forum with a new UCX II.

What the hell is happening?

Any update or fix? I just picked up a Babyface Pro used and the lag is terrible on Sonar. Haven’t tried Reaper yet.

Assuming "lag" means audio latency, it's unlikely your issue is interface/driver-related. If it's not just that your ASIO buffer is set too high, noticeable latency is usually due to plugins that use lookahead buffers inducing plugin delay compensation. If the plugin is not on the track you're input-mpnitoring or in its path to  main outs, you can override the delay compensation by clicking the PDC [override] button in the Mix module. Otherwise you'll need to disable or remove the offending plugin from the project until you're done tracking. Such plugins are generally intended to be used during mixing and mastering when latency isn't an issue.

If thi is happening in a basic project with no plugins, let us know exactly what you're doing - i.e. playing a soft synth, playing a hardware synth, recording from a mic...?

And ideally you should start your own thread so people don't get hung up reading the OP and responses to it which are probably unrelated.

I also have lag issues in CbB and Sonar with a Babyface Pro.  In my case I have an i7-6700 (and run  Windows 10), not a Ryzen like some prior posts mention.

I got the Babyface Pro one year ago, and don't recall any lag issues at that time.  My use this year has been very intermittent, I first noticed lag about 4 months ago.  The lag is not with audio, it is UI response lag.  Clicking on a Mute button can take 1 second (more or less) for the UI to update, same with track operations like drag & move, copy & paste.  I tried various settings in RME TotalMix with no difference, and it is not dependent on audio buffer size setting.

I did find something that improved things, with setting all audio track inputs to "None", and having only the Master output bus going to the hardware out.  After recording guitar and bass tracks, I always left the track input set from recording.  The more tracks that were set this way, the worse the lag was.  Setting all audio track inputs to "None", and a single hardware out improved the lag dramatically.  This behavior seems specific to CbB & Sonar.  It does not occur in a couple other DAWs I have (R* and S* O*).
