Leadfoot
He had that instantly recognizable voice. Loved his music and the funny lyrics. A true original. Rest in Peace...
scottfa
Thanks for posting the video. Most people have no idea what a great piano player he was. Looks like that generation is fading quickly and I see few picking up that torch and moving into the future. Glad I was around for such wonderful American music! Hidden Symmetry
I always dug his style, he turned the world onto New Orleans music back in the 70's. Part of the Wrecking Crew at one time too.
Notes_Norton
He was a great piano player and carried on the NOLA style. You can hear Professor Longhair, Pinetop Perkins, Allen Toussaint and so many Mississippi Delta pianists in his style. He had excellent musicians recording on his albums with him. The rhythm sections always grooved and the background singers wailed. He didn't have what could be called a great voice, but he used it very well and very expressively. He carried the NOLA piano blues tradition to the modern age, his "Gumbo" album is a prime example. RIP good Doctor. Your music will live on. jb101
I saw a lovely quote about his death - "It has left a hole in music that will never be filled." He was truly a "one-off". I saw him play in Birmingham (U.K. not Alabama) a few years ago. Fantastic. Great piano player, singer and eccentric. So sadly missed.
