charles kasler Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 I have the directions to set up ducking for the old (pre-bandlab) Producer using the sonitus compressor. Are there any updated or improved directions for the current version of Sonar or using a different compressor? Thanks!
bitflipper Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 That method still works, and the Sonitus compressor is still a good choice for doing it. Other compressors can add some flexibility, e.g. having a sidechain filter is handy for fine-tuning. A FET-style compressor can give you very fast attack times if that's what you need. Multi-band compressors let you duck specific frequencies, which can make the action more transparent because you're only ducking frequencies that are most likely to mask another track (e.g. ducking a distorted rhythm guitar with a vocal as the sidechain input).
charles kasler Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 Thanks! I mostly want it for spoken tone poems with sound effects in the background. I thought about using it for general accompaniment for vocals but I think automation is a better choice for that?
