Billy86 Posted January 2, 2019 Posted January 2, 2019 I’ve got an i5 processor (4 cores) and am running on an SSD. (Specs in sig) i’ve maxxed out my RAM at 32 gigs. I’d like to make sure I’m taking the most advantage of RAM that I can. Are there settings I can tweak to get the most mileage out of RAM? Thanks and Happy New Year!
Jim Roseberry Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 Do not use any type of RAM "enhancement" or optimization applications. Those will do nothing positive for DAW performance. As long as you have your RAM timing set properly, you're good-to-go. DAW optimizations are much more about performance throttling (disabling)... and power-management (disabling) 1
msmcleod Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 32GB should be more than enough for most projects. I've got 16GB, and for most projects I could easily cope with 8GB. Most modern sample based VSTi's will load samples as and when they need them, so you shouldn't be using more RAM than necessary. This is usually configurable though (e.g. Kontakt). Although VSTI's like Kontakt can be configured to load everything up front, personally I don't as as all it does is increase project loading time. 1
