BackToBassLicks Posted February 5, 2022 Posted February 5, 2022 Anyone know how I could download/dump my user presets from my old (90's era) Peavey bassfex using midi and cakewalk. There are a couple of old posts in other forums which suggest it was possible using cakewalk. Thanks
John Vere Posted February 6, 2022 Posted February 6, 2022 That info is usually found in the the user manual. Look for any pages that say Midi or Sys Ex. The device normally is told to send the sys exc data in a burst to be recorded buy any midi sequencer. If that device is that old make sure you change the COMS battery if you haven’t yet.
BackToBassLicks Posted February 7, 2022 Author Posted February 7, 2022 Thanks John. Is there a specific place in Cakewalk that I would be able to control this process? I upgraded my bassfex with a battery-less chip set. I have the manual and yes, I saw those pages. I just wasn't sure if there was a good tutorial or something on how to hook everything up. Amazon just delivered my USB to midi interface which I am hoping will work with my device. So USB to my laptop and Midi In/out cables to appropriate place on bassfex. Then I guess I follow the commands to dump but does cakewalk have to be put in a receive mode or something or do I have to specify a midi-channel? Right now, I'm going to plug it all in, start the bassfex and cakewalk and see what happens. Wish me luck.
John Vere Posted February 7, 2022 Posted February 7, 2022 Last time I did this I used a cassette tape? But my guess is you set a midi track up with the correct input and hit record and then the send from the device.
