USB midi controller port sharing problem

Hopefully this question is OK to post in this section...it is related to inputing MIDI into CBBL

Used to have a keyboard with both USB out and 5 pin DIN midi out. Connected via 5 pin to midisport...USB out from that to DAW

Had to get a new keyboard which seems only to work via USB. Works fine until I try to open my notation program (Finale) at which point a message comes up saying the port is in use by another program. I believe that on a PC you can't port share. I know there are various software programs (loopback I think is one) that may help but I'm not sure I understand how to set it all up.

So....in order to have two programs open at once and being able to input from MIDI keyboard does anyone either know of a workaround or a midi keyboard that can input via 5 Pin and USB at the same time. I have just got a keystation 61 (M audio) with 5 pin MIDI and USB, but they tell me I can't use both at the same time. Seems I can't use MIDI DIN either to work the DAW. Plugged in my old cheap miditech and it works fine through the 5 pin MIDI out.

If you install this: https://archive.codeplex.com/?p=midireroute , along with two MIDI loopBack ports (https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html or https://www.nerds.de/en/loopbe30.html) 

You can use this to route your USB MIDI IN to two loopBack OUT's.

You'd then set loopBack MIDI IN 1 to be your MIDI IN in Cakewalk, and loopBack MIDI IN 2 to be your MIDI IN on Finale.

OK, have downloaded loopmidi and the archive one. the archive one when unzipped puts loads of stuff in folder an am unsure which one to click on...struggling with my ignorance on this.

Sorry for the late reply on this, and apologies for the link to midiroute - I missed the fact that the project had been discontinued.

A good (probably better) alternative to midiroute is MIDI-OX. You can download it here: http://www.midiox.com/

Instructions are as follows:

(note you can press CTRL + F5 on your browser to force the animations back to the start)

1. Make sure you've installed both loopMIDI and MIDI-OX.

2. Click on the loopMIDI tray icon, and configure it as follows:

3. Start MIDI-OX, and configure as follows:

4. Within Cakewalk, make sure your MIDI keyboard IN/OUT are now unchecked within MIDI devices;
check the "Keyb loop MIDI IN" device in the MIDI Input section, and check "Keyb loop MIDI OUT" device in the MIDI output section.

NOTE: Don't check the "Keyb loop MIDI OUT"  MIDI IN device, or the "Keyb loop MIDI IN" MIDI out device - else you'll get a feedback loop. Just remember, MIDI IN is for MIDI IN and MIDI OUT is for MIDI OUT:

Now you can use the "Keyb loop MIDI IN" for your MIDI input device in both Cakewalk & Finale, and "Keyb loop MIDI OUT" as your MIDI output device in both programs too.

This works!!!!! Can't tell you how much difference this makes. Can keep the keyboard (which I really like) and both programs work together.
