But it does not mean they will not do a Gibson. ?

Anything could happen, but a big difference with the former Gibson/Cakewalk is that Cakewalk was a software company.

PreSonus was exclusively a hardware electronics company from its founding in 1995 until they released the Studio One DAW in 2009. https://www.presonus.com/about/history

Plus PreSonus still continue to design and produce audio hardware, so that is sure to add plenty to their financial bottom line. Unfortunately, Cakewalk could not contribute hardware sales to Gibson, so when they hit hard times... ?

It looks like all the head people at Presonus are staying on, which I take as a good sign, but these kinds of mergers always make me a bit nervous.

Same here , as soon as a brand is doing good , a bigger shark sees it as a rescue wheel , why can't they just stay independant , long term fun is better that fake short term security and money

PreSonus already gives away Studio One 5 Artist with every interface and controller they sell.

And beginning with S1 Artist 5, it loads 3rd party VST without buying any add-ons for plugin support...
