Apply Trimming Apply Trimming

jkoseattle

Question

A long Midi clip with two sections of music separated by a long break.

They need to be two distinct clips

Cut the clip in the middle where the break is

Now there are two clips, but they still have long blank parts where the silence is, and have little triangular notches in the corners

Select both clips

Right-click, Apply Trimming!

Except.... No. The clips haven't changed but the little triangular notches are now gone

Right click, Apply Trimming! (again)

All is well.

Why do I have to Apply Trimming twice? What do those triangle notches get me?

Disable Non-destructive MIDI Editing in Preferences, and the clips will be trimmed automatically when you split them. With NDME enabled, splitting creates two slip-edited copies of the clip, each of which contains all the data of the original clip as indicated by the beveled corners at the split point (I think you were mistaken that these appeared after the first trim.). The first 'trim' discards the part of each clip that's hidden by the slip-edit as indicated by the now-squared corners, and the second one throws away the empty space. It could argued that one 'trim' should do both jobs in one go, but that's how it works currently.
