dahjah
I have mine working along with the VS 700R. It should work no problem when you go into preferences>>Control Surfaces and choose CONSOLE (VS-700) for your in and out. I used the latest driver available on the roland site https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/v-studio_700/updates_drivers/ If your using console only I think there is a different driver since you're not using the rack. Jonathan Sasor
Make sure you've got the dip switches on the console set for separate operation, but it should work, provided you've got the driver installed and you set the surface up in the Preferences. dahjah
when my mother board died it took me quite a few tries to get the system working again. The drivers just wouldn't install properly the first few times. Let us know how you make out. Are you trying this one >>>> https://www.roland.com/global/support/by_product/v-studio_700/updates_drivers/acb80063-0bec-45dc-ab0e-a8a9031c5ce7/ Edited April 30, 2019 by dahjah

StudioNSFW
I had the console before the I/O. Big trick is to make sure the dip switch on the back, far left, is UP if you are using it only as a console, down if using it with the I/O. Install the correct driver (theres a different one for console only operation) still available on the Roland website, and plug the USB cable in when prompted. After its installed, make sure the CONSOLE midi ports are enabled and install the control surface. If the console surface was already installed, remove it and add it back in, setting all ports to CONSOLE (VS-700) The headphone jacks don't work without the I/O, BTW.
