You have a point. That is why some stay on radio and don't venture onto TV ?

It won't be a huge part of it.  If your song is too amazing to get over not having a "slick" video (which actually isn't really a requirement - might not even impress as intended if it is too slick, etc anyway) that would shine through.  I'd suggest using something quick for the video like using stills and the basic "Ken Burns" effect available in basic tools like iMovie and similar if you have trouble with the video aspect.  Song first.  That's why video quality is last on the list.
