Alan Tubbs
I haven’t checked it out but bandlab has a sampler that now comes with the daw. I wonder if it is a vsti and could be used with cakewalk? Or whether it will be imported?
dubdisciple
It's like a stripped down version of koala. It's not bad at all
bitflipper
Which in turn is a stripped down version of anything we'd have called a sampler post-20th century.

But for the youngsters on Bandlab it is a fantastic sampler Then when they get hooked and come into a full-featured DAW and VSTi's they will be like "What do you mean I need 1TB hard drive just for my instrument sounds"

Koala is actually very functional for what it's designed for. It is basically an app version of an sp404. Koala's functionality in sonar would have went a long way in making it more useful to modern pop production. It's not kontakt, but kontakt is useless for what koala does despite being exponentially more powerful.
dubdisciple
And just for clarity, I did not mean that as a slight. I think the target market that the sampler in bandlab is aimed at it is awesome. It's very intuitive and nice for found sound type work
Alan Tubbs
Since I haven’t really mucked with it, I guess it isn’t what we need for cakewalk.

It has potential but as is, is more effective for mobile imo. Like much of bandlab, it favors convenience and ease of use over power user features. Jim Fogle
The Bandlab sampler is online only. The samples you create with the sampler can be used in Cakewalk by Bandlab.
dubdisciple
I'm using it in camp today for a "found sound' project. My son and i have been listening to too much John cage lol
