How to kill a track?

Might be an obvious queestion but how do I shut off a track's output? After I stop playback or recording if I've got a lot of delay and reverb the track will keep playing for ages, which gets pretty annoying.

muting doesn't kill the sound it just turns it off obviously.

Turning off 'Always Stream Audio Through FX' should do this - but please check you can live with the potential impact (see note below)
