noynekker
So, when you say nothing shows up on input and output, do you mean in the track and console views ? Does anything show up when you go to . . . Edit-Preferences-Devices ?

noynekker
Yes, you should see your device listed there, actually, under MIDI Devices ? Edited February 16, 2021 by noynekker
Carl Wade
I understand but yet there is nothing listed there. If I how know to send pic I would.
noynekker
So, if nothing shows up there . . . did you install the Focusrite drivers properly ? . . . or, try replugging USB and restarting your system. Cakewalk needs to find the drivers. 1

tecknot
Hi Carl, The Focusrite 2i2 does not have MIDI ports. Do you have any other MIDI device(s) connected to your laptop? Kind regards, tecknot 2
Carl Wade
No, the salesperson said that a interface is what needed to connect guitar/keyboard to computer.
John Vere
Take it back and get an interface with midi ports. But that said- Most keyboard have a USB midi connection. The 2i2 The 4i4 Or this. Edited February 16, 2021 by John Vere

As the others have said, you'll need an interface with MIDI ports to do MIDI. If you're connecting the audio in/out from the keyboard to the interface, that will only get you audio, not MIDI. What keyboard are you using and does it have a USB port? If it does and it's a pretty modern device, you may be able to get away with not buying another interface. Oh, and welcome to the forum. John Vere
You know this is actually funny. We get hundreds of posts where the OP says “I hooked up my midi cable (or USB) and there’s no sound. “ We politely explain that midi is not audio that it is only data I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen “ I hook up my Audio cables and there’s no midi “. But chances are that the op has a keyboard with a USB MIDI output and won’t need to return the interface. I’ll blame this on pour salesmanship in the store. They should have asked the op what they were trying to accomplish and supplied them with the correct gear Edited February 16, 2021 by John Vere
