Why is my instrumental recording in my vocal take?

I'm trying to record my vocals over a instrumental track.  I have 2 tracks,  one from a instrumental i imported and one for vocals. 

When i hit record on my vocal track,  the instrumental is automatically getting recorded under my vocal track, as well as my vocal. Its not coming from bleed from my headphones. 

Why is this happening?  Any help would be awesome!
