hello i was wondering  i have many stand alone vst's but like the TTS1 the best , anyway where do i find compatible sound that can be used with the tts1 (*.gmn type file) or any other type of softh synth that are compatible with it????

I want to know this, also. So far, I find using TTS1 the easiest way to play multitimbral midi files. I think there is a way to change the sounds but I don’t have the know how to do it.

TTS-1 is a one of a kind MIDI GM multi-timbral synth that was developed by Roland when they owned Cakewalk. It is probably still the best way to open GM files and have the GM sounds open automatically. And since Roland  no longer owns Cakewalk, I doubt that TTS-1 will ever be updated.

As far as I know there is no way to expand TTS-1 with new sounds. I usually just use TTS-1  to open the GM file, and then replace any tracks with a different plugin if I want another sound.

The best commercial ($$$) options for a multi-timbral (non-GM) synth would be Kontakt, Halion 6, SampleTank, and UVI workstation.

Roland is still selling the Virtual Sound Canvass for around 150.00. This is an extremely comprehensive and great sounding GM/GS module that I keep telling myself I should buy.

You can swap out any of the parts and use some of the better sounding VST's like the Studio Instrument collection. My tutorial on midi covers how to do this.

TTs-1 is a good starting point to see if you like the file. There are many free VST instruments out there as well.
