bluzdog Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 https://www.guitarworld.com/news/gibson-acquires-mesaboogie-amps Just as I'm looking to pick up a Mark V 35. We've seen this movie before. I hope this episode fares better. Rocky 1
Sander Verstraten Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 That means they will be giving them out for free in three years??? 1 2 8
Glenn Stanton Posted January 6, 2021 Posted January 6, 2021 this is almost worse than when Computer Associates acquires something... "where great ideas go to die"... 3

Glenn Stanton Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 looks like my '61 Les Paul Deluxe is going to worth a lot, oh wait. never mind.... ? 2
Chandler Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 This is sad. I really liked mesa. I'm guessing this is going to raise the value of pre-Gibson Mesa amps. 2
Bruno de Souza Lino Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Good riddance. They've been in a steady decline in face of new market offerings and their aggressive behavior of blocking and going after anyone that criticizes them, rather then dealing with it in a professional manner has left a bad taste in the mouths of salespeople and consumers.
LAGinz Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Actually this might not be so bad. While Gibson has had a number of quality control problems over the years, they’ve staged a bit of a comeback in the last few, with their new management. The new Les Paul Standard 50s and 60s are very good quality instruments, as are their acoustics made in Bozeman and Custom Shop offerings. And unlike the infamous sale of Fender to CBS back in the day, Gibson is at least a music-focused company.

Cakewalk was musical company and Gibson was musical company and we remembered what happened. Also acquiring by Ronald before was disaster. Ronald left Cakewalk and dedicated hardware users alone... I still have 2 hardware pieces from those days. VStudio-20 & A300Pro. Users abandoned. No will to develop or even support for Win10 (VS ). Rather bitter experience. And I could recall how big hopes I had those days just because it was famous music company... 1
Jim Roseberry Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 (edited) Just picked up a Badlander 50w head. The onboard reactive-load and CabClone IR sound excellent. Lots of features and versatility... and not over-the-top cost wise It's always a little sad to see a heritage company merge or get bought. Edited January 7, 2021 by Jim Roseberry 5

It was licensed and built by Two Notes (the guys that make the Torpedo stuff). The first Cab Clone was almost unanimously disliked for sounding like crap.
Grem Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Well. I am stunned. Did not see this coming. Not at all! I really don't see this ending good. Really don't see it as being a good thing. 2
RSMcGuitar Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Too soon to judge. It sounds like Gibson might be getting better, after getting rid of what's his face (Henry?) I would assume that MESA has taken a pretty big hit with all the ITB options and the Metallica years mostly behind them.

The IR loading section was licensed from Two Notes. The reactive-load is not made by Two Notes. I have a pair of Captor-X boxes. They're great (especially for the cost). The reactive-load in the Badlander (to me) sounds slightly better than the one in Captor-X The IR loading in Captor-X as far more advanced: Can load/mix a pair of Cab IRs in realtime Can determine the length of the imported IR (which determines latency) Onboard Reverb, EQ, Enhancer, Tuner (which is erratic), Gate Edited January 10, 2021 by Jim Roseberry
Jim Roseberry Posted January 10, 2021 Posted January 10, 2021 Gibson was in financial trouble due to massive spending spree acquiring audio/music companies (many out of their realm of expertise). The whole while, Gibson was generating substantial sales revenue.
