Automatic crossfade problem

Hi all,

 

I am having a problem in Cakewalk in that the automatic crossfade option is only working for some clips. Sometimes when I overlap clips with the automatic crossfade turned on, I get no crossfade in the overlapping areas. Other times it works perfectly. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think the issue is to do with the destination lane that the clip ends up in.

In order for a crossfade to happen, both clips need "clash" - in other words, they need to overlap in the same lane:
