Phantom midi recording

Hi there, I have a cakewalk file that is all of a sudden recording phantom midi notes when I try to record a track. 

I don't even have to touch my keyboard, I just hit the record button and there are 16th notes recording a constant pattern.  What could be doing that?

Look in the event viewer. You should be able to see the events recorded.

Just checked. They all say "note" E5 and F5. They have different channels, 3 for the E notes and channel 4 for the F notes.

This is going to sound random. Try turning the plug around for the midi device.

Does your keyboard have a DIN output (5 pin circular plug) and are you using a DIN to USB converter?

If so, the cheap ones are crap and that could be the problem.

Do you have something, hardware OR software with a sequencer or arpeggiator that might be starting when you start the transport?
