SONAR Mac Prototype https://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR-Mac-Prototype The SONAR Mac prototype was discontinued, but was working, albeit in a limited capacity when compared to the standard Windows version. It was working well in and of itself at the time we were experimenting with it, however it lacks the ability to work with external AU/VST plugins. I can't say that I've tried it with more recent MacOS updates though. The Mix Editor in BandLab is an entirely different animal as it's a much broader cross platform app and ties in directly with BandLab's social/collaborative network. Cakewalk by BandLab is the continued development from the SONAR platform and runs on Windows. 1
urock
Fyi, the SONAR Mac prototype doesn't work (at least for me) in Catalina. Has anyone tried Cakewalk in Parallels in a recent version? If so, how did it work? (Yes, I know I can use Bootcamp and do so.)
razor7music
Have your friend setup their Mac for dual boot (or with a tool that allows booting into Windows) and buy a legit version of Windows and install the free version of Cakewalk. It would still be less expensive than another DAW of it's scope and capabilities, as that article you posted was for the Home Studio version. The free version of Cakewalk is the full blown top of the line pro version. Then they can have their Mac and Cake and eat it too!
