Cakewalk remote control

Is anyone using an app/device/control surface to control Cakewalk? I'd love something mainly for transport controls.

I have a pair of Korg nanoKontrols which have some transport buttons, though I mainly use the sliders, knobs, and non-transport buttons for various parameter controls, usually with Remote Control/MIDI Learn. They are older usb devices. For my purposes and on my PC, I find they work very well with Cakewalk. I have seen discussions of other devices in the forum.  Hope this helps.

Oh--I also tried TouchDAW and liked it, but I used my tablet for other things and never seemed to have a convenient place for it when doing music.

I’m using a fader port 1 as a control surface, but I’m interested in a KorgNano to have more controllers. Can I use them both at the same time, or if I switch to the Kong unit would I need to abandon the fader port controller? I’d like to be able to continue to use the fader port’s automated, longer-throw volume slider.

Note that is V2, it has no native Cakewalk support (unlike the first version). Also the price in the link is a bit high... it is ~€180 in Europe (so should be $300).

Several (different) controllers can independently work in parallel.

TouchOSC can be used: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,295.0.html , but TouchDAW covers more.

Transport without app (from phone/tablet): http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,288.0.html

Cheap controller with good functionality coverage: X-Touch Mini. http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,377.0.html

Korg Nano has many controls, but no encoders. Good to control "fixed" set of parameters (f.e. just 8 tracks), not good for for switching between tracks/parameters (needs bringing controls "in position" after switching blocks of tracks).

Thank you for the information. Lots to check out!

I use these with my iphone and ipad. Very easy and free.

With a good WIFI signal it is very quick.  I don't do envelopes/faders recording with it so I really don't know if it is fast enough for that.  Start Stop Rewind add - delete tracks and all this type of stuff is easy.

  • 1 year later...

pour 5 € vous pouvez utiliser unified remote
https://www.unifiedremote.com . Une fois l'installation faite
sur le PC et le smartphone,suivre le tutorial
"How To Create a Custom Keyboard Shortcuts Remote"
et créer les fichiers adaptés à Sonar. La syntaxe est très simple.
Ci-dessous ce qu'il suffit de faire pour obtenir un bouton correspondant
à la fonctionnalité play/stop (barre d'espace dans Sonar)
fichier layout.xml-------------------------------
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<layout>
  <row>
    <button text="Play/Stop" ontap="playstop" />
  </row>
</layout>
fichier remote.lua--------------------------------
local kb = libs.keyboard;
--@help Play Stop
actions.playstop = function ()
    kb.stroke("space");
end

IMO the Korg nanoKONTROL Studio is one of the best of the lower price hardware control surfaces.  I use it daily in my office.  The nanoKONTROL 2 is also very good.

For motorized faders,  Mackie MCU, Presonus FaderPort 8 or 16 and Behringer X-Touch are all good.  The Icon  series are good too, but you need to be careful to select a model that actually supports Cakewalk/SONAR.
