JohnK
Can Cakewalk send Sysex messages/data to VSTi's? The following says that SONAR could not. https://www.rolandcloud.com/catalog/legendary/sound-canvas-va Quote Due to host application specifications, system exclusive messages cannot be sent from tracks to SOUND Canvas VA in the following hosts: Windows® Windows® 7 SP1, Windows® 8.1, Windows® 10 Cakewalk SONAR PLATINUM, SONAR PROFESSIONAL, SONAR ARTIST (64-bit Editions)

noynekker
Do any DAWs do SysEx to Vsti ? I thought SySEx was just hardware synths
msmcleod
The VST2 API supports sysex, but not sure about VST3 tho - VST3 doesn't really do "MIDI" in the conventional sense. SysEx in VSTi's, until recently, have been extremely rare - it's really only the recent VSTi's that emulate real hardware that support it.
JohnK
Sysex to VSTi has been supported by the VSTi's for some time. Its some DAWs that have lagged behind. For example, the sound canvas from the original link above supported SysEx. And obviously, some DAWs do support it. The fact that it talks of SONAR instead of Cakewalk gives you some idea that this passage wasn't written yesterday ie not all that recent in this one case, and thats not even looking for when it first started.
