JohnK
I use SFZ+ and found that Cakewalk did not register the dll/VSTi. I changed the file name to "SFZ_plus.dll" and the VSTi registered. Even though the folder was still "SFZ+" One thing I have to note, is that I am running Win7 Professional 64b Edited July 30, 2020 by John Kalabric corrected from BUG to "some"
0 Xoo
It does for me (Windows 10 - sf+.dll and also z3ta+.dll) and did on the previous install of Windows 10 Pro (64 bit) - I did an in-place upgrade, so the folders/filenames were identical so it's not a general Windows 7/10 issue. Good solution you found though. My guess is it's related to the 8.3 filename being created (or not) correctly, which the VST subsystem still uses.
0 JohnK
Actually, now that you mention it, I too have Z3ta+.dll and that DID register OK , so it looks like something else is going on... But, I have a work around for this one, and bigger issues to deal with that don't have a work around.
