Jono J Grant Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Hey there, What would be the easiest way to monitor (solo) the mid or sides of your mix? I can do it with "Brainworx BX Digital "but they do it in mono. I don't want to listen to sides in mono. Anybody have another way? Thanks Jono
msmcleod Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I use Cakewalk's Channel Tools which came with SONAR. The key is to keep the input mode as Stereo, then reduce the Mid gain to nothing to solo the sides. Double clicking the Mid gain brings it back to unity gain. This does however give a very "fractured" version of the sides, as it's unnaturally split across left/right with nothing in the middle. It may be what is actually only coming on the sides, but it's difficult for the ear to deal with. Setting the input mode to Mid-Side makes it mono, which does give a clearer representation making it easier on the ear. 1
Jono J Grant Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 Hmmmm, okay, thanks, I'll give it a try! Cheers Jono
John Bradley Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Fwiw, I use ISOL8 from TB Pro Audio. Does this and some other useful things. Free. https://www.tb-software.com/TBProAudio/ISOL8.html 2

Is Channel Tools not available for the Bandlab version? I always used to have it. Don't see it now. Thanks Jono

mark skinner Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 There are a couple of free Baxter mid side eq modules you can get free and probably do the same thing Mcleod does with the channel tools (either using the gain or full spectrum eq cuts) ??
Jono J Grant Posted June 30, 2020 Author Posted June 30, 2020 I tried ISOL8, the one John Bradley suggested above. I think it's better actually! Cheers J
